Charge Upgraded to Murder

(St. John’s, NL) December 23, 2024 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has upgraded an attempted murder charge to murder after a man died in hospital after an assault with a weapon in St. John’s.

Shortly after 6 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 19), RNC Operational Patrol Services received a report of a serious assault at the Waterford Hospital. A 66-year-old male was transported to a hospital emergency department with life-threatening injuries.

Responding officers determined that a patient of the Waterford Hospital had assaulted another patient with a weapon, causing serious injury.

A 30-year-old male who was taken into custody at the Waterford Hospital has now been charged with murder.
