To be considered for the experienced officer hiring pool at the RNC, applicants must currently serve or have served as a sworn police officer with full constable status in a municipal or provincial police service, or with the RCMP.

3. I have approximately 14 years of law enforcement experience, including as a Deputy Sheriff and Corrections Officer. Should I apply as an Experienced Police Officer?

No. To be considered for the experienced officer hiring pool at the RNC, applicants must currently serve or have served as a sworn police officer with full constable status in a municipal or provincial police service, or with the RCMP. Since you do not have policing experience, you should apply through the Cadet Training Program.

Yes, we encourage everyone to apply.

5. As an Experienced Officer, is my pensionable service transferable?

It is possible for experienced officers to transfer their pension from other police services. For inquiries about pensionable service, please contact the Uniformed Services Pensions Office. Andrea Squires can be reached at 709-729-5953 or via email at andreasquires@gov.nl.ca. It is important to keep in mind that the process may vary depending on the province in which you worked.

6. As an Experienced Officer, do I get credit for my years of service when it comes to pay?

Salary is generally determined by the number of years served. To illustrate, if you have accumulated seven years of service in your previous department, you will receive the same pay as an officer who has been with the RNC for seven years. Salary and benefit details are outlined in the Collective Agreement.

7. As an Experienced Officer, do I get credit for my years of service when it comes to Annual Leave?

Salary and benefit details are outlined in the Collective Agreement. Annual Leave is dependent on years of service. The following applies:

  • 11-20 years: 160 hours
  • 20+ years: 200 hours

8. I am inquiring about the possibility of applying for specialized units after completing five years of service with Operational Patrol Services with another police agency. Can you confirm if this is something the RNC offers?

As per the Collective Agreement, all positions follow a competitive process. However, in cases where all other factors are equal, seniority is given priority. Therefore, having five years of OPS experience does not guarantee any advantage. It’s important to note that seniority does not transfer from previous organizations to the RNC.

9. Is it possible to connect with a current officer to gain insight about the transition process?
