(St. John’s, NL) November 8, 2024 – As the holiday season approaches, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) wants to help ensure those gifts you buy make it under the tree they were meant for.
Real life Grinch characters exist and they prey on distracted shoppers.
Here are some ways you can help protect your presents and yourself:
- Shop with friends or family. If you must shop alone, do so during the day.
- Secure your belongings. Keep your purse and wallet closed and close to your body.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Avoid distractions, such as using your phone while walking to and from your car.
- Park in well-lit area. Remember where you parked and have your keys ready before getting to your vehicle.
- Lock your vehicle. Never leave valuables in plain sight.
- If your vehicle is equipped with a proximity key, ensure your vehicle is locked before walking away.
Report suspicious activity to the RNC by calling 709-729-8000 or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
On behalf of the RNC have a safe and happy holiday season!
