(St. John’s, NL) August 28, 2025 — The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has arrested a man for intentionally setting a fire in the east end of St. John’s.
A homeowner on New Cove Road discovered fire damage to their property when they awoke yesterday morning (Aug. 27). Fortunately, there was just minor damage and it appears the fire burned out on its own. There were no injuries.
As a result of the investigation, 33-year-old Justin Collins has been charged with arson with the disregard of human life. He was held for court today.
Two other suspicious fires in the east end of St. John’s remain under investigation. Investigators are seeking any information, including video footage, that may assist.
The RNC continues to encourage residents to report suspicious activity by calling 709-729-8000. Crimes in progress should be reported by calling 911. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visit nlcrimestoppers.com.
