RNC Charge Man with Firearms Offences

(St. John’s, NL) October 17, 2025 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has charged a St. John’s man after he was found to be in possession of a firearm.

Around 4:45 p.m. yesterday (Oct. 16), officers located 35-year-old James Halleran in the centre city area who was wanted on outstanding warrants. During a subsequent search, Halleran was found to be wearing body armour and officers located a .22 caliber rifle and ammunition.

Following an investigation by the Weapons and Drug Enforcement Unit (WDEU), Halleran will appear in court today on charges of:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a weapon obtained by crime
  • Possession of a weapon contrary to prohibition order
  • Contravention of use or storage of a firearm
  • Tampering with a serial number of a weapon
  • Three breaches of probation
  • Three counts of failing to appear
