RNC Chief Provides Comment on Conclusion of SIRT Investigation

In November 2015 a complaint was received regarding the manner in which a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) investigation was conducted. As a result, SIRT was asked to investigate this matter. The RNC has cooperated with Nova Scotia SIRT team to enable them to conduct the work required.

At times our officers are faced with complex and challenging investigations. In this case Nova Scotia SIRT team has come to the conclusion that the officers’ decisions were reasonable, made in good faith and in the public interest. I continue to have the utmost confidence in the skills and abilities of the RNC officers who were the subject of the investigation and all members of our supervisory and management team.

I wish to thank Mr. McDonald and his team for his work on this matter.”

-William J. Janes, Chief of Police
