(St. John’s, NL) August 15, 2025 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is releasing details on a suspect vehicle believed to be involved in a shooting on Ropewalk Lane in St. John’s.
Operational Patrol Services responded to a commercial area of Ropewalk Lane just after 2:30 a.m. yesterday (Aug. 14) where they located a 40-year-old man with serious injuries consistent with a shooting. A suspect vehicle had fled the area prior to police arrival.
Throughout the day (Thursday), the RNC received a number of reports of erratic driving and hit-and-run collisions involving a pick-up truck matching the description of that seen fleeing the scene of the shooting.
Officers located the suspect vehicle driving on Cashin Avenue around 10:15 p.m. but the vehicle did not stop. A police pursuit was initiated and terminated a few minutes later due to the risk to public safety. The pick-up truck was located nearby after crashing on Crosbie Road.
The occupants of the vehicle took off on foot, which triggered a shelter-in-place order for the area of Crosbie Road, Columbus Drive, Freshwater Road and Empire Avenue.
RNC Police Dog Services, and the RNC Tactics and Rescue Unit with the assistance of the RCMP Emergency Response Team, descended upon the area. Two occupants of the vehicle were located and taken into custody at which time the shelter-in-place order was lifted (around 1 a.m. today).
The investigative team continues to work to track the movements of the suspect vehicle between 1:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. Thursday. Anyone in St. John’s or Torbay with information or video footage (CCTV, dash camera, cell phone) of a 2007 two-toned burgundy and silver F-150 is asked to contact the RNC at 709-729-8000.
