(St. John’s, NL), May 22, 2018 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit is investigating a homicide that occurred in Conception Bay South (CBS) on Monday.
Yesterday, at approximately 8:10 p.m., officers with RNC’s Operational Patrol Services Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Police Dog Services and Forensic Identification Services responded to a call for service at a home on Comerford’s Road in CBS. When responding officers arrived on scene, they located a deceased adult male inside of the home. Investigators have charged 36 year Philip BUTLER of CBS, with Murder in the Second Degree. BUTLER was held in custody and appeared at Provincial Court in St. John’s this morning.
Investigators are still at the scene of this homicide collecting evidence as well as canvasing neighbouring homes for witnesses. The accused and the victim are known to one another and we do not believe there is any danger to the public. Investigators are working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death as well as to positively identify the victim.
