(St. John’s, NL) August 15, 2025 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) have laid charges and seized an ATV in connection with non-compliance with an order under the Forestry Act.
On Thursday (Aug. 14), shortly after 7 p.m., Operational Patrol Services responded to a report of an off-road vehicle operating in a wooded area near Meetinghouse Road in Pouch Cove. Responding officers located an ATV that had been operating in the wooded area, and identified the teenage male operator of the vehicle.
The 16-year-old was charged under the Forestry Act for operating an off-road vehicle in a wooded area while prohibited because of extreme fire risk. He was also issued a ticket for operating an off-road vehicle without insurance, and the vehicle was seized.
A province wide restriction has been implemented on all off-road vehicles on forested land. This restriction applies throughout the entire province in areas where the Fire Weather Index is classified as either high, very high, or extreme.
Report illegal off-road vehicle operation to the RNC at 709-729-8000.
