(Corner Brook, NL) September 15, 2025 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has made arrests connected to a stolen vehicle on the west coast.
Yesterday morning (Sept. 14) at approximately 5:30 a.m., the RNC received a report of a blue Ford Bronco colliding with the guardrail on the Trans-Canada highway near St. Jude’s. Operational Patrol Services located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle stopped for a moment, then fled at a high rate of speed. In the interest of public safety the officer did not pursue, however, determined the vehicle had been reported stolen from St. John’s.
Then shortly after 9 p.m. yesterday, another traffic stop was attempted with the suspect vehicle on the Trans-Canada highway near George’s Lake. The driver again fled from police.
This morning, the suspect vehicle was observed in the area of the south shore of the Bay of Islands, where while again attempting to flee police it narrowly avoided colliding with multiple vehicles.
The RNC set up roadblocks in order to intercept the suspect vehicle and successfully deployed a spike belt. The vehicle was located a short distance away abandoned by the occupants and set on fire.
Patrol officers, with support of RNC Police Dog Services, located the male believed to be operating the vehicle nearby, placing him under arrest. Another male and a female were arrested and released pending further investigation.
As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old male from Humber Arm South has been held in custody to appear in Provincial Court in relation to charges of flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime and arson.
The RNC would like to thank the public for their significant support and co-operation throughout the response to this event.
Anyone with information to assist the investigation is asked to contact the RNC at 709-637-4100. To report anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or visit www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
