(St. John’s, NL) January 21, 2026 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has made an arrest following an intimate partner violence investigation in St. John’s.
On Saturday (Jan. 17), the RNC received a report that a woman was in distress and believed to have been kidnapped from a residence in the west end. Officers worked to locate the female and later confirmed her safety.
Following an investigation a 22-year-old male was charged with kidnapping, criminal harassment and assault. The accused was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court today.
The RNC would like to remind the public that intimate partner violence can vary in frequency and severity. It occurs on a continuum that can range from one incident to chronic and severe episodes over a period of years. It can also occur at all stages of a relationship including while they are breaking down or after they have ended.
The RNC’s Intimate Partner Violence Unit is available to assist and support victims of intimate partner violence by advising of available resources, criminal investigation information, and court process support.
