RNC Make Arrests for Weapons, Conspiracy

(St. John’s, NL) January 29, 2026 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has arrested two people resulting in conspiracy charges in St. John’s.

The RNC arrested Julian Squires, wanted for being unlawfully at large around 3 p.m. yesterday (Jan. 28) in the west end of the capital city. The 38-year-old was found to be in possession of a prohibited weapon and ammunition resulting in additional charges of breaching a firearm prohibition order and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Emily Vaughan, 39, was also arrested at the scene on an outstanding warrant. She was charged with mischief and breaches, after officers discovered she had provided them with a false name. Vaughan was also issued tickets under the Highway Traffic Act for operating an uninsured vehicle and driving while suspended. The vehicle was impounded.

A search of the vehicle they were travelling in uncovered a bag containing items that led investigators to believe the pair were actively conspiring to commit an armed robbery.

The RNC General Investigation Unit was engaged and today (Jan. 29) the pair were additionally charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Squires was also charged with disguise with intent.

They will both appear in court tomorrow.

The RNC encourages anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to report it directly to police by calling 709-729-8000. Crimes in progress should be reported by contacting 911. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visit nlcrimestoppers.com.
