RNC Promoting Personal Safety Ahead of Social Gatherings

(St. John’s, NL) March 12, 2025 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is encouraging residents to practice personal safety ahead of seasonal social gatherings.

By planning ahead, having open conversations with friends, and being situationally aware, you can have an experience to remember for all the right reasons. Here are a few simple tips to help ensure your event experience is a safe one:

  • If you are attending an event with a group of friends agree to a buddy system. Despite your best intentions, in crowded spaces it is easy to get separated, so designate a meeting point in case you get lost or split up.
  • Keep your phone charged and share your location with friends and family.
  • Keep your belongings secure at all times.
  • Do not leave drinks unattended.
  • Obtain medical assistance immediately for anyone displaying symptoms of illness or loss of consciousness.
  • Do not drive impaired. Arrange a sober ride home, get a cab or book a ride-share. If you suspect an impaired driver, call 911.
  • Report suspicious activities to the RNC by 709-729-8000. Non-emergency complaints can be made by using the RNC’s online reporting system. To report anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visit nlcrimestoppers.com.

With education and awareness, the RNC hopes that by working together we can reduce the risks and help ensure a safe and enjoyable event experience for residents and visitors alike.
