(St. John’s, NL) July 29, 2024 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) in partnership with Highway Enforcement Officers issued more than two dozen tickets during a recent traffic initiative on the Northeast Avalon.
The traffic checkpoints were held during ‘Operation Safe Driver’, focused on reckless, careless and dangerous driving.
Highway Enforcement Officers conducted commercial vehicle inspections for licensing and equipment compliance, cargo securement, exhaust systems, and overall roadworthiness. Multiple warnings were issued for non-compliance and unsecure cargo.
Two commercial vehicles were removed from service for incomplete Motor Vehicle Inspection, with one driver ticketed for operating with a suspended driver’s licence and expired registration.
RNC officers issued tickets for offences including unsecure cargo, unregistered vehicles, invalid driver’s license, and other licensing and registration infractions. There is an ongoing investigation related to a motorcycle that fled the scene of an inspection site on Topsail Road in Paradise.
Anyone with information related to dangerous driving behaviours is asked to contact the RNC at 709-729-8000. To report anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or visit www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
