RNC Traffic Safety Checkpoint Nabs Impaired Driver

(Corner Brook, NL) November 10, 2025 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s (RNC) new Traffic Services Unit initiated a traffic safety checkpoint in the Corner Brook region that resulted in the arrest of an impaired driver.

Shortly after 6:15 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 8) a vehicle approached the checkpoint set up by the RNC on Route 450, in the area of Cook’s Brook on the South Shore, and failed to stop. After nearly striking two RNC officers, the vehicle stopped and officers approached the 63-year-old driver who was showing signs of impairment. The driver failed the roadside device and was transported to RNC headquarters for further testing. As a result, the driver was charged with impaired driving and was released to appear in court at a later date. The driver’s licence was suspended and the vehicle seized subsequent to the arrest.

The RNC continues to urge the public to report impaired and unsafe driving behaviours directly to police by calling 911. To report anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or visit www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
