RNC Warning Public of Fentanyl

(ST. JOHN’S, NL), August 25, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) are warning the public of the potential presence of fentanyl in the community.

On Tuesday, August 24, 2021, just before 10:30 pm, members of RNC Operational Patrol Services responded to a residence on Howlett Avenue in St. John’s in connection with a request for police assistance. On arrival, responding officers observed evidence of illicit drug activity inside the home. As a result of an investigation, officers received information that there was believed to be fentanyl contained within illicit drugs at the residence.

The RNC has concerns for the safety of anyone who ingests or encounters illicit drugs, and warns of the life threatening consequences of ingesting fentanyl. A miniscule amount of this opioid substance could be a potentially fatal dose.

If you or someone you know is at risk for opioid overdose, a naloxone kit can temporarily reverse the effects of an overdose. Please call 811 to find your nearest location for a free naloxone kit, or visit https://www.gov.nl.ca/hcs/naloxonekits/.

The RNC continues to investigate this matter, and ask that anyone with information please contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can now provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
