(St. John’s, NL) January 16, 2025 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) and a number of search and rescue partners are working off the coast of eastern Newfoundland looking to find a woman who was swept out to sea.
First responders received the emergency call around 4 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 15) and descended upon Cape Spear. A male who was with the woman at the time, was able to climb to shore before emergency crews arrived. He was rushed to hospital for treatment of what has been described as minor injuries.
The search which is now considered a recovery mission, is ongoing by air, land, and sea. Responders on scene today include, the RNC, Rovers Ground Search and Rescue, and the Canadian Coast Guard.
The RNC is looking to speak to anyone who may have been in the area of Cape Spear between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. At the time of her disappearance the woman was wearing beige clothing and was in possession of an iPhone.
