The RNC Issues Tips to Prevent Porch Parcel Thefts

(St. John’s, NL) December 2, 2024 – It’s the busiest online shopping day of the year and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) wants to make sure you are prepared when all those deliveries arrive at your door.

You can foil those ‘porch-pirates’ plans by taking these proactive steps to protect your packages:

  • Use Secure Delivery Locations: Have deliveries sent to a workplace, or a friend’s home where someone will be available to receive the delivery.
  • Schedule Deliveries: Co-ordinate delivery times for a time when you know you will be home.
  • Request Signature on Delivery: Require a signature for high-value or important packages.
  • Install Security Cameras: Home surveillance systems act as a deterrent.
  • Use Package Hold Options: This is a convenient and safe alternative for those not home during delivery times.
  • Sign Up for Delivery Alerts: Enable text or email notifications to track your package and know exactly when it arrives.
  • Get to Know Your Neighbors: Consider arranging for a trusted neighbor to collect your package if you’re not home.

To report suspicious activity, call the RNC at 709-729-8000 or use the online reporting system.

The RNC wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday!
