RNC Charge Man with Firearms Offences

(St. John’s, NL) July 6, 2026 — The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) charged a male with firearms offences in St. John’s.

Operational Patrol Services were conducting extra patrols yesterday (July 5) in the Cochrane Pond area as part of ongoing investigations into suspicious fires.

While using a drone for additional patrols around 2 p.m., officers observed a male walking on the roadway carrying two firearms. While maintaining a visual of the man who was not observed using or brandishing the firearms, officers were able to locate and arrest the 68-year-old without incident.

Officers seized a .303 rifle and a BB gun. The accused was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm without a licence.

The RNC continues to encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to report it directly to police by calling 709-729-8000. Crimes in progress should be reported by contacting 911.
