Man Located Deceased after Boat Overturns

(Corner Brook, NL) July 29, 2026 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) regrets to inform that a man has died in a boating incident.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday (July 27), Operational Patrol Services in the Corner Brook region responded to Gillams Pond for a report of two men in the water after their boat had overturned. On scene, officers located one occupant of the boat who had been rescued by members of the public. He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Bay of Islands Search and Rescue (BOISAR) were engaged to assist in the search for the unaccounted-for male boater.

Around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday (July 28), after an extensive search, the male was located deceased. No foul play is suspected and the investigation is ongoing.

The RNC expresses sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
