(St. John’s, NL) August 25, 2026 — The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has arrested a man for intentionally setting a fire in St. John’s.
Yesterday (Aug. 24) at 6 p.m., Operational Patrol Services responded to a report of a fire at a home in Kenmount Terrace. Responding officers determined the fire had been intentionally set and arrested 36-year-old Tyler Chafe on scene. There were no injuries and the fire was extinguished by the St. John’s Regional Fire Department.
As a result of the fire, a shed was destroyed and there was damage to the exterior of the neighbouring homes. Fire investigators in the General Investigation Unit continue to investigate.
Chafe was held to appear in court on charges of arson and four counts of uttering threats.
The RNC continues to encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to report it directly to police by calling 709-729-8000. Crimes in progress should be reported by contacting 911.
