(St. John’s, NL) August 28, 2026 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has arrested a man for robbing a taxi driver in St. John’s.
Operational Patrol Services received a report Monday (Aug. 24) shortly before 7 p.m. from the Ropewalk Lane area, that a passenger threatened a driver with an edged weapon and demanded cash before fleeing the cab on foot. While still on scene, a second call was received of a theft from a home nearby with the suspect matching the description of the taxi’s passenger. A search of the area failed to locate the suspect and the investigation continued with the engagement of the Criminal Investigation Division.
John Fleming, 44, was arrested yesterday (Aug. 27) and charged with:
- Robbery
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Forcible Confinement
- Unlawfully in a Dwelling
- Theft under $5,000
He was held to appear in court today.
