(St. John’s, NL) October 2, 2026 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has arrested a man following an assault in Torbay.
The RNC received a report of a weapons offence yesterday (Oct. 1) on Motion Drive where a female had been assaulted and received non-life-threatening injuries the day prior. Operational Patrol Services members contained the property, and the RNC Tactics and Rescue Unit and the RCMP Emergency Response Team were called to assist. Two people exited the home without incident. A search warrant was subsequently executed at the residence and resulted in the seizure of two long guns and ammunition.
The Major Crime Unit was engaged to investigate and last night around 10:30 p.m., 25-year-old Jesse Butt was arrested in Paradise. He was held for court today on charges of:
• Assault with a weapon
• Carelessly using a firearm
• Pointing a firearm
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Using a firearm in the commission of an offence
• and uttering threats.
The investigation is ongoing and further charges are anticipated.
