(St. John’s, NL), April 2, 2024 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) responded to a landslide in Corner Brook overnight.
Just before midnight on Monday (April 1), patrol officers received a report that a landslide had occurred in the area of Riverside Drive. On arrival, the officers observed a significant landslide over the roadway and a vehicle submerged in the Humber River. The officers contended with low visibility and challenging conditions in an effort to locate the occupants of the vehicle. The two occupants from the submerged vehicle were located in the water and brought to safety by the responding officers. Occupants of another vehicle impacted by the landslide were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Emergency responders from the Corner Brook Fire Department, Bay of Islands Search and Rescue, RCMP, Newfoundland Power, and the Canadian Coast Guard collaborated with RNC officers to support the assessment of the scene and promote the safety of the community.
The area remains impassable, and Riverside Drive remains closed to traffic at Route 440 and Humber Road.
