RNC Investigating Historic Sexual Assault Allegations

(St. John’s, NL), March 23, 2018 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Child Abuse & Sexual Assault (CASA) section is investigating complaints of sexual assault by a physician employed by the RCMP dating back to 1981.

Earlier this year, national media reported on an investigation being carried out by Halifax Regional Police in relation to allegations of sexual assault by a physician conducting medical examinations on perspective RCMP candidates between 1981 and 2003. Since that time, individuals have come forward to the RNC with similar complaints.

At this time, there have been no charges in relation to the RNC’s ongoing investigation and we have no reason to believe there is any risk to the general public.

The RNC is encouraging anyone who believes they were sexually assaulted by this individual or anybody who is a victim of any sexual assault to report it to the RNC by calling 729-8000.
