(St. John’s, NL), January 8, 2017 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Traffic Services Section has laid a charge of Dangerous Driving Causing Death in connection with a fatal motor vehicle collision.
On Wednesday, May 17, 2017 just before noon, officers with RNC Patrol Services Division, Accident Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Services along with Paramedics from Eastern Health and Firefighters from St. John’s Regional Fire Department responded to a single vehicle collision on Blackhead Road in St. John’s.
The vehicle involved was a 2008 White Chevrolet Corvette and was travelling north on Blackhead Rd (just before Shea Heights travelling from the direction of Cape Spear) before leaving the roadway. The male passenger was ejected from the vehicle and both the driver and the passenger sustained serious injuries.
The 27 year old male passenger of St. John’s died on May 19, 2017 in hospital as a result of the collision. The driver has been since released from hospital. Following the accident investigation, the 23 year old male driver of St. John’s was charged with Dangerous Driving Causing Death. He will appear at Provincial Court in St. John’s on Friday, February 9, 2018.
