(ST. JOHN’S, NL) September 7, 2017 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit has arrested a man following a stabbing incident that occurred this today just before 3:30pm.
This afternoon, officers with RNC’s Patrol Services Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Forensic Identification Services, Police Dog Services, and Eastern Health Paramedics responded to a report that a man had been stabbed in the area of Alberberry Lane in St. John’s. The 36 year old St. John’s man was conveyed to hospital by paramedics where he later died from his injuries.
A male suspect was arrested by patrol officers a short time later in the center area of the city. The 31 year old St. John’s man is currently in police custody and will appear at provincial court Friday. Both men were known to one another and this is not believed to be a ‘random act of violence.’ Information on the charges will be available Friday.
Major Crime Investigators are keen to speak with anybody in the Alberberry Lane area who may have witnessed this altercation.
