(St. John’s, NL) September 25, 2024 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has made significant seizures and multiple arrests connected to drug manufacturing and trafficking in St. John’s.
In February, the Weapons and Drug Enforcement Unit (WDEU) launched an investigation into potential drug trafficking on the Northeast Avalon. The investigation included numerous units of the RNC, with the assistance of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. On Monday (Sept. 23), two men and two women were arrested in connection with the investigation. Following the arrests, two vehicles were seized and multiple search warrants were executed including at a camping trailer on the outskirts of the city.
Officers believe the trailer was being operated as a drug manufacturing site given the seizure of:
- Respirator masks
- Products at various stages of manufacturing
- Various unidentified substances in dishes/containers
- Packaging supplies
- Multiple gas storage tanks
- Colour dyes
- Vacuum sealer
The other searches resulted in the seizure of a loaded .22 calibre handgun, a loaded GSG .22 calibre semi-automatic rifle, as well as two replica handguns, and what is believed to be:
- Xyalzine
- Fentanyl
- Cocaine
- Crystal meth
- Various prescription medications
- Manufactured illicit pills
- Drug manufacturing equipment
- Money counter
- Multiple cell phones
- A large quantity of cash
This investigation is ongoing, with charges anticipated following laboratory testing.
