(St. John’s, NL) December 8 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) have made an arrest after a driver fled from police and collided with numerous police vehicles in St. John’s.
On Sunday (Dec. 7) at approximately 7:15 p.m., RNC Operational Patrol Services responded to a theft-in-progress at a business on Kenmount Road. Responding officers located the suspect vehicle however, when officers initiated a traffic stop the male driver failed to comply and fled at a high rate of speed, striking a police vehicle and causing minor damage.
Around 9 p.m., the suspect vehicle was located by OPS in a parking lot on Blackmarsh Road. Again, the driver failed to stop for officers and struck three police vehicles in his attempts to flee. Officers pursued the suspect vehicle due to public safety concerns, given the driver’s dangerous and aggressive driving.
The vehicle came to a stop on Hamlyn Road, where the driver fled on foot and was arrested while attempting to steal a police vehicle. After further investigation, officers believed the driver to be impaired.
Accident Investigation and Forensic Identification Services attended to assist the investigation that is still ongoing. There were no injuries reported.
Brandon King, 37, has been charged with Operating a Conveyance while Impaired, Refusal to Comply with a Demand, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Assault with a Weapon on a Peace Officer, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Resisting a Peace Officer, Flight While Pursed by Police, Failure to Stop at an Accident, Possessing Property Obtained by Crime, Failure to Comply with a Release Order, as well as summary offence tickets for speeding, driving without due care and attention and operating a vehicle without insurance. His licence has also been suspended.
King was held to appear in court today (Dec. 8).
