Operation Impact Yields Driving Suspensions, Vehicle Seizures, and Criminal Charges

(St. John’s, NL) October 14, 2026 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) issued over 300 tickets and arrested multiple drivers for impaired driving during the Thanksgiving long weekend.

‘Operation Impact,’ a national public awareness campaign, took place from October 9-12. A total of 308 Summary Offence Tickets were issued, primarily for speeding, including numerous offences in construction zones where workers were present.

Four operators were charged with impaired driving, 11 drivers had their license suspended, and 15 vehicles were seized. Five of the seizures were for vehicles travelling more than 50 km/hr over the speed limit, while the remainder were for impairment and insurance or licensing infractions.

In collaboration with RCMP Traffic Services, high-volume traffic checkpoints and speed enforcement were conducted on provincial highways.

The RNC continues to urge the public to report unsafe driving directly to police by calling 911.
