(St. John’s, NL) July 5, 2026 — The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has arrested a man for intentionally setting a fire in St. John’s.
Due to a recent number of fires in the Cochrane Pond area, RNC Operational Patrol Services were conducting extra patrols this morning (July 5). While using a drone for additional patrols around 8:15 a.m., officers observed a male intentionally setting fire to a vehicle. Fortunately, there were no injuries, and the fire was extinguished by the St. John’s Regional Fire Department.
The 52-year-old male was held to appear in court on charges of arson.
Investigations into the previous fires in the Cochrane Pond area are ongoing.
The RNC continues to encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to report it directly to police by calling 709-729-8000. Crimes in progress should be reported by contacting 911.
