(St. John’s, NL) July 9, 2026 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) have charged two youths following a robbery in the west end of St. John’s.
At approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday (July 7), the RNC received a report of a robbery that had occurred in a parking lot on Topsail Road. A man approached a woman and took off with her purse and vehicle. The 82-year-old victim received minor injuries.
Operational Patrol Services responded and officers located the stolen vehicle on Pitts Memorial Drive with a male and female inside. A traffic stop was initiated however, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. A pursuit was terminated due to the risk to public safety.
Around 3 p.m., the vehicle was determined to be in the Clarenville area where RCMP officers were engaged to assist. Officers initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle however, it fled at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was located unoccupied shortly thereafter, and RCMP officers arrested a 17-year-old male and a 13-year-old female nearby. Through the investigation, it was learned that the male had also stolen gasoline from a store in Goobies earlier in the day.
The male has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, robbery, two counts of flight from police, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and theft under $5,000. The female has been charged with dangerous operation and being a party to the offence. The investigation is ongoing and further charges are anticipated.
The youths were transported to St. John’s to appear in court.
