RNC Investigating Gunshots in Downtown St. John’s

(St. John’s, NL), April 23, 2024 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s (RNC) Criminal Investigation Division is investigating weapons offences that occurred in St. John’s.

Around 10:40 a.m. on Friday (April 19), patrol officers responded to the area of Casey Street in response to a report of shots fired. Responding officers determined that a single gunshot had been fired. There were no injuries reported.

At approximately 12:20 p.m., a report was received by the RNC that shots had been fired in the area of Livingstone Street at Carter’s Hill. Patrol officers arrived at the scene moments later, determining that multiple shots had been fired. No injuries were reported.

The response to these events resulted in a significant police presence in the downtown area. Both events are believed to be targeted and connected to one another.

The RNC is seeking any information to assist the investigation, including any video footage from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday from the area bordered by Springdale Street, Lemarchant Road, Long’s Hill, and New Gower Street.
