RNC Upgrade Charges; Vehicle-Pedestrian Collision Now Fatal

(St. John’s, NL) July 30, 2026 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has upgraded charges against a man following a pedestrian-vehicle collision that has claimed the life of a six-year-old.

On July 23, Operational Patrol Services and Accident Investigation responded to a vehicle-pedestrian collision involving a child at the intersection of Thorburn Road and Larkhall Street in St. John’s. Tyler Day of St. John’s was charged at the time of the offence in relation to the ongoing investigation.

The victim, a six-year-old boy, has since succumbed to his injuries he sustained from the collision.

Yesterday (July 29), Day’s charges were upgraded to the following:
• Impaired Driving Causing Death
• Failure to Remain at the Scene of an Accident Causing Death
• Operating Over the Legal Limit Causing Death
• Dangerous Operation Causing Death and
• Criminal Negligence Causing Death.

Day is scheduled to appear in court today.
