(Labrador City, NL) November 6, 2026 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is warning of a cross-Canada telephone scam impersonating officers in Labrador West.
The RNC has received multiple reports from people living outside of the province who were called from 709-944-3405, a number formerly associated with the Officer in Charge of the Labrador City Detachment. The person on the other line indicates that police have someone in custody and proceeds to provide direction in an attempt to gain further information from the recipient.
The RNC is reminding the public that if you receive a call from someone claiming to be law enforcement looking to obtain personal or financial information, end the conversation and contact your local police service directly. Law enforcement agencies or public officials would never demand money over the phone as part of any judicial or investigative process. Remember, don’t trust a number just because it is local or familiar. Fraudsters may use technology that will disguise their actual contact.
To report suspicious activity, call the RNC at 709-729-8000. You can also report fraudulent or scam calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre by calling 1-888-495-8501.
