Routine requests for a copy of a police file for insurance companies for stolen, damaged and lost property can be directed to:

A letter to you or your insurance company will be provided with a synopsis of the police file identifying; the date the incident was reported to police, the RNC File number, the investigating officer, if charges were laid, if the investigation is concluded, and a listing of any stolen property.

File an Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPP) request

An Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPP) request can be made by completing the application form and submitting it to RNCATIPP@rnc.gov.nl.ca.

Please note: Section 5(1) ATIPPA indicates the below records will not be released by the RNC:

  • a record relating to a prosecution if all proceedings in respect of the prosecution have not been completed 5(1)(j);
  • a record relating to an investigation by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary if all matters in respect of the investigation have not been completed (5(1)(k) ATIPPA);
  • a record relating to an investigation by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary that would reveal the identity of a confidential source of information or reveal information provided by that source with respect to a law enforcement matter (5(1)(l) ATIPPA); or
  • a record relating to an investigation by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in which suspicion of guilt of an identified person is expressed but no charge was ever laid or relating to prosecutorial consideration of that investigation (5(1)(m) ATIPPA).

Records that do not fall under 5(1) of the ATIPP Act may be subject to “other” sections of ATIPPA which apply to the type of information requested.
