RNC Search Warrant Results in Firearms Offences

(St. John’s NL), April 11, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Investigation Division laid charges in connection with prohibited weapons and illegal firearms in Paradise.

 

On Monday, April 10, 2023, at approximately 10:55 pm, the RNC Operational Patrol Services Division (OPS) responded to a request for police assistance at a storage facility in Paradise. Responding officers engaged the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) to investigate potential weapons offences related to a private storage unit.

 

Investigators of the RNC CID conducted a search of the unit after receiving judicial authorization. The officers seized illegal firearms, other prohibited weapons and ammunition.

 

As a result of an investigation in to the event, a 33-year-old male from Mount Pearl was charged with the following offences:

 

  • Careless storage of a firearm x 12
  • Contravention of storage regulations x 12
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm x 12
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon x 7
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized x 12
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon while knowing it is unauthorized x 7
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition

 

The accused was released on conditions to appear in Provincial Court on May 23, 2023.
